Leaving with Many New Friends

JF(middle) with his friends at his airport send-off

JF hails from Yantai, a city in Shandong province. Leaving behind his parents, wife and two children, he came to Singapore to work in the wood industry in May 2017.

In September 2018, he sawed part of his leg by accident during work. He fainted on the spot and was sent to the hospital for treatment immediately. Hearing about the assistance that HealthServe provides through a fellow injured Chinese migrant brother, JF came to us and has been receiving help from our caseworkers. Through liaising with different parties, our caseworkers have assisted him in receiving the correct amount of compensation. JF also visits the Orthopaedic specialists at our Geylang Clinic, to aid in his recovery process.

JF has returned back to China as of December 2018. He decided to engage a lawyer, as he felt that the compensation was unsatisfactory for the injuries which he sustained. Before he left, he told us that he gained strength from his friendships forged here, as the group of migrant brothers, being in similar situations, can empathise with each other. JF also showed his appreciation for the acts of kindness from Singaporeans, where strangers gave up the seats for him when they saw that he was reliant on his crutches to move around.
