Dhinesh first reached out to HealthServe for assistance when he was unemployed.  He visited HealthServe to undergo medical check-ups, and that was when he was diagnosed with hematuria (blood in the urine). 

Dhinesh works in a factory that sharpens and prepares tree blades that trim, cut and remove trees. 

A typical work week consists of 8-hour shifts on weekdays and a half-day shift on Saturday. He checks the materials, does chemical washing, and then sharpens and packages the tree blades.

He typically awakes at 7am to eat breakfast and pack his lunch. He enjoys eating home-cooked food because it is healthy and helps him save more money to remit back to his family. While his colleagues head out to buy lunch, Dhinesh catches a few winks instead.

After a long and hectic week, Dhinesh looks forward to having a good rest. Like many of us, he loves nothing more than to sleep in on Sundays and hang out with his friends – be it window shopping or watching a movie together.  

What many of us didn’t know – was that back in his hometown of Kumbakonam in India, Dhinesh was an avid volleyball player! Volleyball courts were a common sight there and people frequently played it in the evenings after work and school.

When he was in the 10th grade, he even represented his school in volleyball competitions!

Playing volleyball with his childhood friends is not the only thing he misses about India. Living away from home, Dhinesh misses his family and his mum’s fish curry and fried fish the most. 

Dhinesh adds that he appreciates the opportunity to work in Singapore, and especially likes the hygiene level here.

“I also like that Singaporeans dress humbly and have a soft and gentle way of speaking,” he said with a smile.
