Most low-wage migrant workers living and working in Singapore have minimal or no social and family support. When faced with a crisis (e.g. health issue, work injury, salary disputes, loss of income), many of them do not know who or where to turn to for help.
We are looking for a mature team player to act as an advocate; engage, educate and empower low-wage migrant workers (primarily in the construction, marine and process sectors) through our outreach events. Other engagements may focus on their coping mechanisms to improve their wellbeing and better their daily lives and experiences while working in Singapore.
This role reports to the Team Lead, Training & Development.
Responsibilities
- Engage with staff, partners, and volunteers to run regular migrant outreach programmes, enforcing the awareness, engagement, action, retention, and advocacy lifecycle of HealthServe’s services
- Plan and implement outreach programmes for low wage migrant workers living in dormitories, and other facilities (e.g. private-residences, Migrant Worker On-boarding Centre) and at Recreation Centres
- Plan and coordinate with organisations, student groups, community partners, and/ or volunteers to support and participate in outreach events and engagement initiatives
- Assist in evaluation and reporting of programmes
- Establish and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders to deliver suitable programmes for the migrant worker community
- Support in SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) review to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of service
- Plan and collaborate with other departments to achieve organisational goals
- Support in the development and distribution of curriculum and educational content contextualised for migrant workers
- Provide support to Training & Development team
- Assist and provide support on daily operation matters
Requirements/ Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in project management, event management, hospitality, social work, psychology or sociology preferred.
- Applicants not from the social service sector are encouraged to attend courses related to Social Work and/or Community Outreach Programmes.
- Proven work experience in event organisation and execution.
- Basic understanding of social issues faced by migrant workers in Singapore.
- Social perceptiveness and empathy.
- Ability to build and maintain professional helping relationships.
- Ability to relate and communicate with co-workers and with diverse populations and groups, partners, and other professional bodies.
- Resilience along with ability to assess situations.
- Willing to submit to background checks.
- Diploma holders with relevant experience may also apply.
