We approach the issues holistically

আমরা সার্বিকভাবে সমস্যা নিরসনে এগিয়ে যাই।

Through our medical clinics, casework, social assistance, advocacy, research and outreach programmes, we are working to address the complex and intertwined needs of migrant workers – from medical to legal, physical to emotional, mental to social.

Since 2007, we have helped thousands of migrant workers.

২০০৭ সাল থেকে শুরু করে আজ পর্যন্ত হাজারো প্রবাসী শ্রমিকের প্রতি আমরা সহযোগিতার হাত বাড়িয়ে দিয়েছি।

At the Singapore Red Cross Humanitarian Conference 2022, our Executive Director, Michael Cheah, shared about how COVID-19 impacted the mental health of the migrant worker community in Singapore. Some struggles included loneliness that was exacerbated during isolation in quarantine, and cultural differences, such as language barriers and familial pressures.

In light of these challenges, HealthServe has continually assisted our brothers. In close collaboration with @samaritansofsingapore and @sgredcross, we have implemented multiple initiatives to support the migrant community’s mental health throughout these unprecedented, challenging times.

We are grateful for our volunteers and partners, who have played a huge role in the success of our programmes. Thank you @sgredcross for giving HealthServe this opportunity to raise awareness of the migrant worker community’s mental health struggles!

For this International Suicide Prevention Day, HealthServe would like to commemorate our 24-hr Crisis Helpline anniversary.

Exactly a year ago, we launched our Crisis Helpline for migrant workers in Singapore. The pandemic compounded the migrant community’s existing worries and concerns, shedding light on the mental health challenges they face. Since its operation, the helpline has attended to over 9000 calls; and in close collaboration with SOS, HealthServe has trained nearly 140 volunteers.

Today, the helpline continues to serve as a safe space for callers to seek timely assistance and a listening ear from our well-trained volunteers and staff.

We would like to thank MOM ACE, @samaritansofsingapore, our corporate volunteers, and individual crisis helpline volunteers’ continued efforts in supporting HealthServe’s initiative to better the mental health of Singapore’s migrant community. Let us continue to work together towards a brighter future to fulfil every migrant worker’s holistic needs 💪🏼❤️

To celebrate a good resolution to a client's case, we had a gathering at our office pantry last Tuesday 🥟. We were all so blessed by the generosity of the Chinese brothers who initiated the gathering and shared their culinary skills. We also reached out to Chinese brothers at our booth at Chinatown in early August, and many migrant friends came to learn more about HealthServe 🤝

We embrace cultural diversity and support migrant workers of all ethnicities. If you need help, please come to our Geylang office or call our 24-hour hotline: +65 3129-5000.

We also wish to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival. 中秋节快乐!🌕🐇🥮🏮

How wonderful it is to resume activities at our Geylang centre, such as our volunteer open house! 🥳

Over a dozen interested dentists attended our open house event last Friday to learn more about HealthServe and our services for the migrant workers. The night started with a warm welcome given by the chairlady of our Board, Ms Chan Chia Lin, and followed by a talk on the current health needs of migrant workers.

Long-time volunteer dentist, Dr Joshua Xie, shared the insights he gleaned while serving the community, such as the life experiences of migrant workers and how to treat them with dignity. ☺️

Being a volunteer dentist at HealthServe is more than an act of goodwill — it is a rewarding journey of healing and hope 🤝 We had a great time and hope that this night will mark the start of many new journeys with HealthServe!

“[H]is faith is also something he holds on to quite strongly. He is happy to be alive, and I think he values life and the friendships he has even more.”

More than a year after the tragic Tuas Explosion incident, the HealthServe team finally sends off Jitu, one of our migrant brothers, back to his homeland. While the tragedy left many deep physical and mental scars on him, Jitu reflects about the accident and his life after it. We are grateful to have met Jitu and we wish him all the best in his future!

Read on to find out more about what he learnt from his experience. #linkinbio

Thank you to our many generous donors supporting our Gala Dinner’s Auction, for which we raised over $100,000 for the auction.

The auction would not have been possible without the support of Chocolate Gems, COMO Hotels and Resorts, Eastern Carpets, Fullerton Hotel, Raffles Singapore, STPI, Taberna Wine Academy, YuLi Inc Fine Jewellery and other individual donors.

We would also like to thank our staff and our board commitee members for their work behind the scenes. ❤️

A WORLD TOGETHER

“A World Together” is a music video project in collaboration with Voices of Singapore. It features a 180-strong virtual choir of children, healthcare professionals and the HealthServe team singing, as well as interviews with our migrant friends from various industries.

THE SOLIDARITY WALL

Stand together with our migrant friends to help each other through this time by sharing a message of encouragement and hope in videos, pictures or words.

Sometimes hearing what others are going through and listening or reading words of encouragement can give you strength to fight through another day. That’s why we’ve started the Solidarity Wall where you can read and post encouraging messages and tips to each other during this time.

RESOURCES FOR MIGRANTS

Monday 13th April: To support ongoing efforts to help educate migrant workers and provide remote counselling and casework support, HealthServe launched a hotline and website in Tamil, Bengali, Chinese and English. The public can also use the hotline to submit messages of encouragement which may be published on our upcoming Solidarity Wall.
